Kia Rio Sedan debuts in New York

The Rio Sedan is similar to the Kia K2 that was unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show at the same time, sharing the same underpinnings. However, both cars feature unique designs, with the Rio Sedan retaining the hatchback's front end look.

The new Rio Sedan is bigger overall than the outgoing model, measuring in at 4,366mm long, 1,720mm wide and 1,455mm high. With the usage of 63 per cent high-tensile-strength steel, the new Rio Sedan now has increased torsional stiffness for improved handling, ride quality and refinement, plus better crash safety capabilities while reducing overall weight.

The Rio Sedan is expected to be powered with a 1.6-litre GDI four-cylinder engine that produces 135bhp, with the choice of either a six-speed manual transmission or a six-speed automatic. The new Rio will also feature Kia's ISG start-stop technology for better fuel efficiency.
