LEGO has released new products in collaboration with various racing brands such as BMW, McLaren Racing & Senna Brand and the Mercedes-AMG PETRONAS Formula 1 team.
LEGO says that the purpose of this release celebrates racing fans' passion while creating exciting play experiences for families to enjoy together.
On 1 March 2024, LEGO debuted two LEGO Speed Champion sets, two LEGO Technic cars and one LEGO Icons car on top of two new cars from LEGO City which were inspired by racing.
The LEGO Speed Champions sets are collaborations with McLaren Racing and BMW respectively. The former features the 2023 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car, displaying the iconic black and papaya livery that McLaren Formula 1 Race Cars are known for. The latter, on the other hand, features two BMW cars: The BMW M4 GT3, and the BMW M Hybrid V8.
The LEGO Technic cars were created in collaboration with McLaren, featuring the 2022 McLaren Formula 1 Race Car alongside the Mercedes-AMG F1 W14 E Performance. The latter comes in two different versions. One is a 1:8 scale model that was crafted with adults in mind, and fascinatingly, contains a 'working' V6 engine with moving pistons. The pullback version, on the other hand, was crafted mainly for children. Despite being crafted for kids, it still boasts realistic movement, and an authentic look.
On top of this, the LEGO Icons features what has been dubbed the most successful F1 car, the 1988 McLaren MP4/4.
Beyond the accurate detailing and realistic functions, the set also comes with an Ayrton Senna minifigure to go along with the car.
Last but not least, there will be two new racing inspired sets added to LEGO City. These two sets are the LEGO City Green Race car, which comes with a racing driver and a photographer, while the other set is the LEGO City Race Car and Car Carrier Truck. This set includes both a race car and a transporter. Beyond this, the set also comes with two minifigure drivers.
