LTA to build cycling links between park connectors and MRT stations
02 Mar 2014|2,260 views
The Land Transport Authority (LTA) will build cycling links at 11 MRT stations to connect them to nearby park connectors. It is offering a tender to contractors to build these paths, ranging from tens to hundreds of metres long.
The eleven train stations are Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Woodlands, Marsiling, Promenade, Hougang, Sengkang, Potong Pasir, Dover, Clementi and Yew Tee.
A spokesman from LTA has confirmed that works to build a cycling link in Buangkok has begun. These links will allow cyclists to ride on dedicated paths without having to cycle on the road or pedestrian footpaths, which is illegal in all housing estates except Tampines.
Speaking to The Straits Times, Transport Researcher from Singapore-ETH Centre, Alexander Erath, said the new links will benefit leisure riders with foldable bicycles, but has limited use for those who use their bikes as direct commutes.
Dr. Erath warns that traffic junctions have to be made safer, and will require more careful considerations as they are more prone to accidents.
