Mahindra to get Volkswagen parts to build its future SUVs

The Volkswagen Group and Indian multinational automotive manufacturing corporation Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd (Mahindra) have signed a new parts supply agreement designed to see both firms accelerating the transition to electric mobility in India.
The agreement covers components of Volkswagen's MEB toolkit and will be used in Mahindra's new INGLO purpose-built electric vehicle platform. Mahindra, in turn, plans to launch a total of five new all-electric SUVs in India based atop this new purpose-built electric platform, the first of which will enter the Indian market in December 2024.
Volkswagen states that this supply agreement will run over several years and covers certain electric components as well as its unified battery cells. The expected total volume of the agreement is also said to total over 50GWh. Both the Volkswagen Group and Mahindra state that they aim to strengthen their e-mobility footprint in the Indian automotive market and accelerate electrification in the region.
The Volkswagen Group has been making new investments in India. The firm announced in October 2023 the opening of a new Parts Expedition Centre in Pune, India, to serve as a packaging area for completely-knocked-down kits of the Kushaq and Slavia for export in containers to Vietnam. Volkswagen has additionally partnered with Ford with Europe in a deal that will see up to 1.2 million electric vehicles to be built by Ford, all atop the Volkswagen MEB toolkit.
