Mazda reveals new mid-term goals for its Japanese plants

Mazda has announced a host of mid-term goals as it works towards turning its factories around the globe carbon-neutral by 2035. The firm states that it targeting to bring down the CO2 emissions of its factories and operational sites in Japan by 69% compared to 2013 levels, by financial year 2030. Mazda states that its Japanese facilities account for 75% of its total CO2 emissions.
Mazda has also announced that it will partake in a host of new initiatives designed to bring down its carbon emissions further. These include the introduction of Internal Carbon Pricing as one of the capital investment criteria, which will ensure that the firm prioritises investments that make a major contribution to CO2 emissions reduction.
Mazda also plans to make use of a corporate Purchase Power Agreements to increase the purchase of non-fossil fuel derived sustainable energy from power companies. The firm plans to achieve a usage ratio for non-fossil fuel power of 75% by the 2030 financial year. Finally, the firm also plans to introduce carbon-neutral fuels at its domestic facilities. Mazda will be switching the fuel used to power vehicles for transport within the company from diesel to a biofuel.
Mazda also states that it will be investigating optimal strategies to bring down the CO2 emissions for its plant outside of Japan, using the initiatives already established at its Japanese plants as a reference model.
