Mazda CX-5 sales reach five million units

When most enthusiasts think of Mazda, the MX-5 immediately comes to mind. The roadster is synonymous with the brand and reflects its philosophies when it comes to engineering and driving.
Regular drivers, on the other hand, will probably picture another model: The CX-5. Introduced in 2011 and spanning three generations, the SUV joins the Mazda 323 and Mazda 3 as the third Mazda model to surpass five million units sold.
In addition, the CX-5 is also the first model that incorporates Mazda's Skyactiv technologies and the brand's Kodo - Soul of Motion design to achieve this in the shortest time.
Helping the CX-5 reach this milestone is the fact that it is sold in over 100 countries and regions. Production of the SUV started at the carmaker's Ujina Plant No. 2 in 2011, before eventually expanding to Ujina Plant No. 1, and the Hofu Plant. The CX-5 is also produced in facilities in China.
Closer to Singapore, the CX-5 is assembled in Malaysia and Vietnam, further burnishing its position as the best-selling model in the brand's family.
Koichiro Yamaguchi, Program Manager for the CX-5, said, "We would like to express our sincere gratitude to all customers and fans around the world who have supported the CX-5."
"The all-new CX-5 has been fully changed in eight years, further refines its sporty design and driving dynamics. It offers a spacious cabin where all passengers can enjoy comfort and ease, along with a redesigned Human-Machine Interface."
He continued: "Meticulously focused on daily usability, it has evolved into a new-generation SUV that makes driving more comfortable and life itself richer. We will continue to nurture the CX-5 carefully, aiming for it to be cherished for years to come."
