Mercedes-Benz has announced that the MBUX infotainment system will now be able to act as the control centre for your home's smart devices.
The feature is set to be available for all Mercedes-Benz vehicles in the U.S.A equipped with the MBUX voice assistant, allowing users to keep track of what's happening at home without taking their eyes off traffic.
The system is said to be able to integrate with numerous smart home devices including those from Philips Hue, Samsung SmartThings, TP-Link and myQ by Chamberlain Group made for certain lights, smart plugs, thermostats, motion detectors, and garage doors.
Activating a smart home account will also be available as a complimentary service without any package upgrades nor any additional costs to the user. Users are also said to be able to start the connection between their MBUX system and their smart home devices via a voice command, and vy scanning a QR code via their smartphone.
Mercedes further states that different appliances form different providers can be connected at the same time and answer questions simultaneously. So, for example, if you ask the MBUX system if everything is ok at home, the system will scan all installed equipment to check on their status. A possible answer could be, "All the windows are closed, and the light is still on in the bedroom." This means that users will be able to check all motion detectors in their home while still in their car, or to turn off all smart lights after a hasty departure.
