Mercedes-AMG is marking 130 years of motorsport with this newly unveiled GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport.
The is said to merge state-of-the-art motorsport technology with traditional design features inspired by the racing cars of the 1950s, and develops a total of 671bhp, making this non-homologated special model the most powerful GT3 vehicle ever built in Affalterbach. Only 13 examples of this GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport will be built.
The Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport gets a redesigned front splitter alongside a widened rear wing, allowing the car to deliver 15% more aerodynamic downforce than the base GT3 model
Without the need to meet various restrictions for the sake of homologation, the Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport has been graced with an entire bevy of optimisation work from Mercedes-AMG. The car's output comes courtesy of the lack of a need for an air restrictor and the use of a special exhaust system, for example.
The car also gets a redesigned front splitter, side skirts, and an underfloor alongside a wider rear wing, all said to increase its total downforce by 15% over the regular GT3 car. Also present here is a Drag Reduction System, which moves the main element of the car's rear wing into a flat position at the push of a button. The car also comes with carbon discs, since it does not need to utilise steel ones as per GT3 regulations.
Power from the GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport is put to the road via a sequential six-speed racing transmission, and to further add to its motorsport credentials, the car also gets fully adjustable four-way motorsport shock absorbers. These come alsongside its carbon fibre safety cell, a five-point harness, safety nets, a steel roll cage, a fire extinguishing system, a safety tank and an emergency hatch as well as a racing ABS and a multi-adjustable traction control system.
Blue chequered fabric adorns the seats of the car, which comes with a matching personalised bag so its owner can ferry a host of racing equipment
On the exterior, Mercedes-AMG states that the Mercedes-Benz 300SL W194 served as the design inspiration of the special edition GT3 car. There's obviously the use of an exclusive silver colour - a nod to the legendary Silver Arrows, while the car's Blue rhombuses on the front wings and the coloured frame of the radiator grille are said to reference the winning cars driven in 1952 driven by Hans Klenk and Karl Kling in the Carrera Panamericana and by Hermann Lang and Fritz Riess in the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The car also gets seat upholstery in blue chequered fabric as well as the headrest upholstery and door loops in brown leather, a touch inspired by the Mercedes-Benz SLR 300.
Each of the 13 Mercedes-AMG GT3 Edition 130Y Motorsport comes with a comprehensive delivery package which includes a vehicle cover specially developed for the special model alongside personalised racing suit, gloves, racing underwear and shoes as well as a customised racing helmet from Bell.
Customers also receive a personalised bag, which is designed to match the seat cover in a stylish blue chequered pattern and offers sufficient space for a host of racing equipment.
