At the first day of official winter testing in Jerez, Spain, former world champion Lewis Hamilton and team mate, Nico Rosberg, unveiled the all new silver arrows for a modern era of Formula One. Designed from the ground up, the new car marks an historic milestone as Mercedes-Benz celebrates 120 years of Motorsports and the 80th anniversary of the Silver Arrows.

The new hybrid Energy Recovery System (ERS), which incorporates electric motors capable of recovering both kinetic and waste heat energy, is integral to the car's performance. Each driver is permitted to use just five Power Units per season without penalty.
New tailor made fuel and lubricants have been developed by Petronas technologists to meet the challenges of the 2014 Power Unit.
Mercedes is the only top team on the grid to continue its driver lineup of - Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg - who have spent the short winter break preparing for the year's new challenges, working closely with their respective engineering teams and conducting intensive training programmes.
For 2014, the drivers will adorn new race numbers - 44 for Lewis and 6 for Rosberg - that will stay for their racing careers.
Mercedes put the F1 W05 through its paces as soon as the Spanish track was declared open, with Lewis Hamilton taking the wheel for the first time. Lewis' best time of 1:27.820 set the early pace at the Spanish circuit, before a front wing failure on his 18th lap shortened his track time.
The front wing of Hamiltons F1 W05 failed and folded under his front wings causing the car to head straight into the barriers at turn one resulting in more damages to the nose and front suspension. Despite the mishap, Mercedes is confident the car would be ready by the next day with no major damage to the chassis tub.
