Mercedes-Benz Singapore has officially launched the new GLC, the second generation of the brand's mid-range Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), at a special event held at Civic Plaza, Ngee Ann City.
Renamed from the GLK to keep in line with the brand's new nomenclature for its model range, the new GLC represents a big step forward on several fronts: the design philosophy favours sensual purity and a modern aesthetic for a dynamic yet precise design.
The characteristic Mercedes-Benz SUV front end features a three-dimensional radiator grille with twin louvre, striking headlamps, and bumpers with integrated underguard. A 118mm longer wheelbase lends the GLC an elegant long profile, reinforced by a gently sloping roofline that is a hallmark of the brand. The rear is characterised by borad, muscular contour lines.
The model change also signals a marked upgrade for the interior, combining sensual purity with dynamic sportiness. High-class materials include nappa leather and open-pore wood trim, along with Artico leather upholstery. More space has also been created for the passengers, with additional 57mm legroom at the rear. Another key focus of the new interior is the dashboard and the centre console, as well as the newly developed touchpad in the handrest.
The new GLC feature Air Body Control suspension, which combines excellent driving stability and sporty agility with optimum comfort and outstanding off-road capabilities. There are five driving modes for the driver to select from (Eco, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual). The full-support multi-chamber air suspension is electronically controlled and has continuously adjustable damping, with a quick response time that allows the vehicle to constantly adjust to the driver's needs.
The optional Off-Road Engineering package comprises five programs (Slippery, Off-road, Incline, Rocking Assist and Trailer), which works in conjunction with Air Body Control to optimise the wheels' ground contact, ensuring good progress in off-road terrain. The GLC also features 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive, mated to a 9G-TRONIC automatic transmission, for improved traction and driving dynamics.
The GLC also gets almost all of the driver assistance systems familiar from the C, E, and S-Class models, including Collision Prevention Assist Plus, Crosswind Assist, Attention Assist, as well as the Driver Assistance package Plus. Presently, the GLC is being offered in GLC250 4MATIC guise, which features a 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with direct injection, rated at 211bhp and 350Nm of torque. The options list include an Exclusive exterior and AMG Line, as well as a designo interior.
