Mercedes-Benz launches the striking new CLA Coupe in Singapore

The new Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe was launched in Singapore at Timbre+ on 12 July. The new CLA Coupe takes excitement to the next level with its emotional and progressive design, coupled with Mercedes-Benz's groundbreaking Mercedes-Benz User Experience (MBUX) UI concept.

The combination of the long, stretched entry line above the windows and frameless doors give the CLA Coupe its unmistakable sporty and elegant character. "As a four-door coupe, the new CLA intrigues with its puristic, seductive design and brings the design DNA of 'sensual purity' to a new level." says Gorden Wagener, Chief Design Officer of Daimler AG.

Forming the front end of the CLA Coupe is a striking front section which is raked forwards like a shark nose, with a long, stretched bonnet featuring powerdomes. Flat headlamps together with the low slung bonnet and the diamond radiator grille with central star complete the vehicle's sporty face.

With the greenhouse moved back, the sporty GT rear achieves a balance between elegance and sportiness. The two-piece, narrow tail lamps and the number plate housed in the bumper make the rear of the CLA look especially wide.

Inside the CLA Coupe, all elements are arranged according to the overarching design themes of 'high tech' and 'youthful avant-garde'. This can be seen from the steering wheel, door handle operating module, the centre console as well as the seats.

Similar to the A-Class, the CLA Coupe's dashboard features a wing-shaped main body which extends from one door to the other with no visual discontinuity. For the first time, Multicontour seats with massage function and climate control are being offered as options in the CLA.

The CLA Coupe is equipped with the cutting-edge MBUX Interior Assist, recognising movements to make various comfort and MBUX functions simpler and more intuitive to operate. It enables the adaptation of screen content as soon as a hand approaches the touchscreen in the dashboard or the touchpad on the centre console, for example. Individual elements are highlighted according to the currently active menu.

In addition, the system is able to distinguish between the driver and front passenger's wishes, and thus knows for whose seat the massage function is to be activated. There are other functions which can be controlled intuitively. For example, if the driver reaches over towards the unoccupied front passenger seat in the dark, it will be illuminated automatically.

The latest driving assistance systems with cooperative driver support functions from the S-Class has also been adopted by the new CLA Coupe. For the first time, the CLA is able to drive semi-autonomously in certain situations. Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC as part of the optional Driving Assistance Package is not only able to support the driver to automatically maintain the correct distance from the vehicle ahead, but also to give the driver noticeable steering assistance, even on bends.

As part of the Driving Assistance package, the CLA Coupe also offers the Active Emergency Stop Assist, Evasive Steering Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist, Active Steering Assist, Active Braking Assist with cross-traffic function, PRE-SAFE system and PRE-SAFE Plus. The CLA Coupe comes with enhanced Active Brake Assist as standard as well as Active Lane Keeping Assist, which warns the driver with pulsed vibrations when the vehicle drifts out of its lane.

Powering the new CLA Coupe is an updated four-cylinder petrol engine which produces significantly more power while offering improved efficiency and emissions as compared to the previous generation. The 1.4-litre turbocharged engine produces 160bhp and 250Nm of torque, propelling the CLA Coupe from 0-100km/h in a brisk 8.2 seconds.
