Mercedes-Benz has inaugurated its first charging hub in Germany, just a few weeks after the very first Mercedes-Benz-branded charging station was opened in the U.S.A.
This German charging hub is the fourth such Mercedes-branded charging hub, following two others in Chengdu and Foshan, China. Located in Mannheim, the hub is said to be located in one of Germany's most important transport corridors. It offers a total of six charging points, each with an output of 300kW.
The Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs are openly accessible to vehicles of all makes and sizes, from small cars to vans. However, Mercedes-Benz customers benefit from a welcome introductory rate, as well as complimentary charging via the Mercedes me Charge charging service at all new Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs during the initial months. Mercedes-Benz customers will also be able to use a reservation function at Mercedes-Benz Charging Hubs in the future.
Owners of Mercedes-Benz vehicles will also be able authenticate their charging session at the hub via the MBUX multimedia system, the Mercedes me app, or the Mercedes me Charge charging card. Mercedes also plans to have automatic authentication offered at the hubs via its Plug and Charge service in the future.
The firm plans to roll out more Mercedes-branded charging stations in the U.S.A and China, while new charging stations will also open in Italy, Spain, and France in 2024. Mercedes plans to expand its global charging network to over 2,000 charging points by the end of 2024, and to more than 2,000 charging hubs offering 10,000 fast-charging points worldwide by the end of the decade.
