Mercedes-Benz has successfully integrated series production of its EQS SUV at the Tuscaloosa plant in Alabama which has been the production site of the brand's large SUVs since 1997. The plant currently serves as a key production location for Mercedes-EQ luxury electric SUVs like the EQS SUV and EQE SUV, the latter of which will go into production later this year.
To facilitate production of the electric EQS and EQE SUVs, Mercedes-Benz has opened a new battery factory in Bibb County, Alabama in March this year. Mercedes-Benz has also kept sustainability in mind, ensuring that its production sites in the U.S.A operates on a carbon dioxide-neutral basis similar to that of all of its plants worldwide. The company has also established a global battery recycling strategy, starting to build its own battery recycling plant in Germany.
Since the 1990s, Mercedes-Benz has invested a total of more than seven billion dollars in the state of Alabama. One billion dollars was invested into the battery plant with logistics centres and production lines all receiving upgrades to make EV's.
