Mercedes-Benz has thrilled audiences at the Goodwood Festival of Speed with a lineup of classic cars.
The 'Blue Wonder' racing car express transporter is said to have thrilled audiences at the festival, leading the 130 Years Motorsport Convoy that marked the firm’s 130th anniversary. Also present at the event was the Mercedes-Benz W 196 R Formula One race car in which Juan Manuel Fangio drove to become the sport’s World Champion in 1954 and 1955.
Charles Henry Gordon-Lennox, the Duke of Richmond and Gordon, also took part in a demonstration drive in the 100-year old Mercedes 2.0-litre Targa Florio racing car as co-driver of Marcus Breitschwerdt, CEO of Mercedes-Benz Heritage GmbH. The 1924 race car is now returning to the roads after an extensive restoration at the Mercedes-Benz Classic Centre.
The lineup of classic cars which were available to view at the festival also included the first Mercedes-Benz Silver Arrow: The W 25 formula racing car, the Mercedes-Benz C 11 Group C racing sports car, and the Mercedes-Benz GT racing sports car CLK LM (which won all the races in the FIA GT Championship in which it started).
Also available to view was a Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG GT3 customer sports racing car which lead a one-two-three victory in the 24 Hours of Dubai in 2012, as well as the Mercedes-AMG GT3 'Raw Spec', a special version of the customer sports racing car designed together with Race Service, a Los Angeles based creative studio, and the Mercedes-AMG GT3 '130 Years', designed specially to mark Mercedes-Benz's anniversary.
