The new SL packs a number of new innovations. For instance, a new wiper system named ‘Magic Vision Control’ debuts on the flagship roadster. In this system, the washer fluid is applied from within the blades, doing without the conventional spray which obscures driver vision when activated.
Mercedes claims that the new SL is equipped with the same level of safety as found in the S-class, thanks to the crash-optimised aluminium structure and a host of passive and driver assistance system. Three roof options will be offered: painted, glass roof, and a panoramic roof with variable opacity control. As part of the weight-saving program, the frame of all roof options are constructed out of magnesium, saving six kilograms and resulting in a lower centre of gravity.
Mercedes-Benz has revealed the all-new SL, which is the lightest and sportiest yet for the iconic model. An all-aluminium bodyshell brings down the weight by a substantial 140kg as compared to its predecessor. The new V6 (for the SL350) and V8 (for the SL500) are also more efficient, producing more power and yet consumes up to 22 per cent less fuel.
