Mercedes-Maybach SL lands in Singapore

May we interest you, good sir or madam, in the fact that Mercedes-Maybach has launched the SL680 Monogram Series here in Singapore. Based on the Mercedes-AMG SL, this new Mercedes-Maybach SL680 is described as the sportiest model from the super luxe Maybach brand.

Features that set this Mercedes-Maybach SL apart from the Mercedes-AMG SL include the black bonnet complete with Maybach pattern, Maybach-exclusive 21-inch rims, and the use of an aerodynamic scoop cover aft of the seats

We know what you're thinking. Fret not: There's no risk of anyone mistaking this for a 'regular' AMG SL.

Consider firstly that your car will come with an obsidian black bonnet complete with the Maybach pattern incorporated in graphite grey uni - the perfect match for you or your partner's Louis Vuitton tote. You'll also note that unlike the Mercedes-AMG SLs, this Maybach SL is strictly a two-seater. Did I also mention you'll be able to get this car in a choice of 50 different Manufaktur colours?

Less obvious details that set this car apart from other SLs include the use of a chrome-finished radiator grille (complemented with an upright Mercedes star on the bonnet unlike even historic SLs), and a chromed fin that runs along the centre of the bonnet.

You'll also get your car with a unique anthracite roof complete with the Maybach pattern on this Mercedes-Maybach SL680, and the car will wear Maybach-exclusive 21-inch forged wheels, available as either a five-hole or a multi-spoke design.

And if the good sir or madam would accompany us to the back of the car, notice that this SL also comes with its own elegant rear skirt design, which is further highlighted by a chrome horizontal bar and accompanied by a unique exhaust tailpipe design. Do also notice how the panel aft of the seats has been moulded to imitate a pair of double scoops, further accentuating the already sleek lines of the SL.

Step within and you'll note that your Mercedes-Maybach SL680 also comes decked in nappa leather, which appears on the door panels and centre console. This leather is also applied on the seats of the car, but here they get a unique floral pattern and are further accentuated by galvanised seat backrests.

A 577bhp 4.0-litre V8 provides power for this Mercedes-Maybach SL, allowing it to complete the century sprint in just 4.1 seconds

The car also comes with Maybach-exclusive startup animations and display styles. Just in case you're wondering, the screen ahead of the driver here measures in at 12.3-inches, while the one located in the centre measures 11.9-inch across. And yes, the latter screen still adjusts its tilt electrically, so you can keep the glare out even if you've left your aviators (or Dolce & Gabbana sunglasses) at home.

And if touring across the world is on your mind, you'll be pleased to note that the Mercedes-AMG 4.0-litre continues to do duty in the Maybach SL - with no loss of power or torque next to the SL63. So, you've got a total of 577bhp and 800Nm of torque to deploy, enough to see you sprinting from zero to 100km/h in 4.1 seconds should the tax collector come chasing.

But of course, this isn't some crude sports car. Mercedes-Maybach has fitted this SL with what it describes as a noise-optimised exhaust system for quieter drives, while the accelerator pedal characteristics here have also been rejigged to ensure that the smooth progress as expected of a Maybach is the supreme order of the day. And just so you know, this SL also comes with its own comfort-oriented suspension and soft engine mounts, all for that luxurious top-down cruising experience.
