MG Singapore finally has a flagship in its stable following the introduction of the MGS6 EV, the biggest model in its lineup. The arrival of the MGS6 also gives MG a contender to compete with the BYD Sealion 7 in the mid-size electric SUV segment.
The MGS6 is built on MG's EV Modular Scalable Platform (MSP). It measures 4,708mm long, 1,912mm wide, and stands 1,672mm tall. With a 2,835mm wheelbase, the MGS6 promises generous space for all occupants.
Looks-wise, the MGS6's styling closely resembles that of the MGS5, featuring slim daytime running lights and small head light clusters. An Active Grille Shutter, located below the front bumper, optimises aerodynamics and thermal efficiency.
To lend the interior a sense of refinement, vegan leather and Alcantara are used to upholster the seats. Facing the driver are a 12.8-inch Central Display Screen for infotainment, and a 10.25-inch Driver Virtual Display. The latter is complemented by an augmented reality heads-up display (AR HUD), the first in an MG model here.
Speaking of infotainment, the MGS6's audio system features both wired and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, along with 11 speakers. There's also a built-in navigation system that can provide real-time traffic information.
In terms of safety, the SUV is equipped with MG Pilot, a suite of 20 advanced driver assistance systems that includes Forward Collision Assistance (FCA), Lane Change Assist (LCA), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), and Pedestrian Detection System. Seven airbags are also standard.
The MGS6 also promises high levels of practicality and flexibility. Boot capacity stands at 674 litres with the rear seats upright. Activate the one-touch folding function and the volume expands to 1,690 litres. There's also a useful 86-litre frunk, which should come in handy for those who want to dabao food or bring home fresh durians.
Performance-wise, the electric motor produces 109kW (146bhp) and 350Nm of torque, figures that enable it to go from rest to 100km/h in 9.8 seconds. Like its siblings, the MGS6 has a rear-wheel drive layout.
Feeding the motor is a 77kWh NMC battery, which has a combined WLTP range of 530km. With a maximum DC charging speed of 144kW, charging from 10% to 80% takes 38 minutes. On the other hand, the maximum speed for AC charging is 11kW.
The MGS6 is currently available in the Luxury variant, with prices starting at $189,888 with COE, and with a special $10,000 Early Bird Discount already factored in. Buyers can also look forward to one year of free road tax, and other benefits including $500 of aftersales vouchers and 500kWh worth of Shell Recharge credits*.
