MINI previews the Aceman, an all-electric crossover

MINI has unveiled a new Aceman concept, a car which the brand identifies as a preview into the future generation of MINI's new design language. It will be the first MINI crossover model for the small premium car segment with a purely electric drive.
A new digital interior space and materials will also be employed, with the highlight being no leather or chrome present. Surfaces will be constructed from knitted recycled textiles with fresh colour contrasts, combining seamless digital controls with a new OLED display which takes the centre of the interior space.
The Aceman will come in at a length of 4,050mm, a width of 1,990mm and height of 1,590mm. This means that it should be between the MINI hatchback and Countryman in terms of size. You might also have realised that the design is clearer and simpler, with the reduction of chrome trims around the edges present in earlier MINI generation cars.
On the inside, Mini states that simplification has also been carried out, with cleaner contours coupled with new technology. Besides the seats, steering wheel and gear lever, you can observe nothing more than the central round instrument and toggle switch bar.
When it comes to the OLED display, MINI claims that it is the world's first car manufacturer to present an OLED display that takes up the entire surface of the central interface. The OLED screen helps to exude a higher quality appearance and display stronger contrasts and deeper blacks at the same time.
Newly introduced experience modes are also present. For example, 'innovative' experience mode allows the driver to individualise and personalise the driving experience in the interior, combining displays and colour worlds depicted on the central interface panel.
'Personal' mode meanwhile, allows the transfer of an image motif of their own choice to the OLED display. A moving image projection on the dashboard can show cloud formations, ocean waves or even the shimmering surface of a swimming pool, accompanied by a matching sound backdrop.
The relocation of the controls for the gear selector and parking brakes has created extra free space between the driver and passenger seats. MINI utilises this space by putting a flexible centre console that extends transparently into the rear area.
This centre console can be used for positioning storage compartments, a wireless charging station for the smartphone and cupholders to name a few uses that are possible.
The new MINI Aceman will make its first appearance at Gamescon 2022. Gamescon is also known as the biggest gaming event in the world which sees gaming fans convene to experience the latest games and offerings from developers. The event will be held in Cologne on 23 August 2022.
