Like the MINI Cooper S (128 kW/175 bhp) and the MINI Cooper (88 kW/120 bhp) already introduced very successfully into the market, the new version is powered by a brand-new engine for even more motoring fun and, at the same time, a significant reduction in both fuel consumption and emissions.
The new MINI One completes the EU test cycle with average fuel consumption of just 5.7 litres/100 kilometres.
Individual highlights in design.
Fascinating flair, the newly designed interior with highly sophisticated, topquality materials and incomparable design elements, as well as agile handling of the highest standard - these are the typical features and fortes of the new MINI.
Now, in the new MINI One, this superior quality is combined with unique allround economy. At the same time all variants of the new MINI excel through their evolutionary development in design retaining the unmistakable character of the brand and adding new, fresh highlights for ultimate perfection.
On the MINI One, for example, the characteristic hexagon radiator grille now features black insert bars to add a special touch of individual style. And the caps on the exterior mirrors as well as the handle on the tailgate are also finished in black as a special feature on this model.
The roof finished in body colour likewise contributes to the elegant presence of the new MINI.
MINI One: High-tech power unit for superior performance and efficiency.
The 1.4-litre four-cylinder featured in the new MINI One comes from the 1.6- litre naturally aspirated engine of the new MINI Cooper and boasts the same refinements in technology. Smooth development of power and maximum efficiency are ensured above all by fully variable valve control developed on the basis of the BMW Group's unique VALVETRONIC technology.
Sophisticated aluminium construction makes the smaller version of the new power unit a muscular lightweight, just like its "bigger" brothers. Efficiency is further enhanced by the volume flow-controlled oil pump as well as the ondemand coolant pump only activated once the engine of the new MINI has reached its optimum operating temperature.
Developing maximum output of 70 kW/95 bhp, the four-cylinder power unit of the new MINI One develops 4 kW/5.5 bhp more power than its predecessor. Peak torque, in turn, is 140 Newton-metres or 103 lb/ft. This highly advanced power unit gives the new MINI One sporting performance combined with exemplary fuel economy and emission control: Acceleration to 100 km/h, for example, comes in just 10.9 seconds for manual transmission and 12.6 seconds for automatic transmission.
Top speed, in turn, is an impressive 185 km/h for manual transmission and 180 km/h for automatic transmission. Average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle, finally, is 5.7 litres/100 kilometres for the manual transmission and 6.6 litres/100 kilometres for the automatic transmission approximately 15 per cent less than on the former model. And last but of course not least, the new MINI One naturally complies in full with the EU4 emission standard.
Driving fun MINI-style: manoeuvrable, sporting, safe.
The new MINI One is available with a six-speed manual gearbox or six-speed automatic transmission complete with a Steptronic function which allows manual choice of gears. So the driver is able to shift gears either sequentially by means of the selector lever or by way of paddles on the steering wheel.
The go-kart feeling already typical of the former model is combined in the new MINI with a standard of supremacy quite unique in the small car segment: The newly developed suspension gives this front-wheeldrive performer supreme agility at all times, the car's sporting character now being enhanced by remarkable comfort also on long distances. Superior precision in fast bends, in turn, is guaranteed by the new EPAS Electrical Power Assisted Steering.
Occupant safety of genuine premium car standard is ensured, inter alia, by six airbags as well as three-point seat belts on all four seats. Standard features for superior active safety include the latest generation of ABS anti-lock brakes, CBC Cornering Brake Control, as well as EBD Electronic Brake Force Distribution.
