In the first nine months of this year, there were 13,881 violations, up from 13,490 in the same period last year.
At a junction along Scotts Road - near the popular food centre at Newton Circus - 24 motorists were seen beating the red light, with nine doing so in the first 15 minutes, according to a report by Sunday Times. At the junction of East Coast and Joo Chiat roads, five were spotted racing through despite the red light.
Meanwhile, the Sunday Times also stated that at the junction of Rochor Road and Victoria Street, where a Ferrari crashed into a taxi in May, 18 vehicles - including three buses - were seen beating the red light.
The Traffic Police said there are various hot spots where daily enforcement operations are conducted against motorists who break the law and this is on top of the red light surveillance camera system.
The Traffic Police intends to upgrade the cameras to digital technology for better enforcement, details of which will be released in the coming months.
