New bus terminal in Tuas to open on 7th October

A new bus terminal in Tuas West Drive will open on 7th October while the existing terminal there will cease operations on the same day. The new Tuas Bus Terminal is integrated with the Tuas MRT Depot and sits above the depot building, with access ramps for buses leading to Tuas West Drive and Tuas Link 4, said the Land Transport Authority (LTA) yesterday. A bus terminal sited together with a train depot is a first and makes 'for more productive use of land', said the LTA in a statement.
The new terminal is part of the LTA's efforts to upgrade bus infrastructure to better serve commuters. These include building new bus interchanges, upgrading existing ones and refurbishing the facilities at older ones. To maximise land use, bus and train facilities are being sited together in other projects as well. Last year, the LTA awarded a contract to build a four-in-one rail and bus depot, called the East Coast Integrated Depot. It will contain three train depots and one bus depot, and is targeted for completion in 2024.
The new Tuas Bus Terminal has two alighting berths and a bus-stop-like boarding berth. It also has a priority queue zone and barrier-free toilets for the elderly and commuters who are less mobile. The four bus services operating from the current Tuas Bus Terminal will operate from the new terminal from 7th October. They are services 192, 193, 247 and 248. They will also no longer call at bus stop 25411 along Tuas West Drive once the switchover happens.
