The Land Transport Authority is pleased to announce that the new 130m dual carriageway, Tanjong Rhu Bridge, across the Geylang River, linking Tanjong Rhu Road with Stadium Crescent/Stadium Walk, will open to traffic on Sunday, 30 November 2008 at 10am.
Mr. Lim Biow Chuan, Advisor to the Mountbatten Grassroots Organisations will officiate at an opening ceremony this evening, the 29th November 2008.
The bridge will offer direct access between the Tanjong Rhu and Kallang areas, as well as to the city via Nicoll Highway. Motorists heading from Tanjong Rhu to Nicoll Highway will reduce their travel time by as much as five minutes if they choose to use the bridge, helping to ease traffic along Mountbatten Road and Fort Road.
"The residents of Tanjong Rhu have watched as the bridge took shape over the course of many months. We hope they will enjoy the convenience the bridge will bring and use it often", said LTA's Chief Executive, Mr. Yam Ah Mee.
Bridge construction began in May 2007 as part of the Kallang Paya-Lebar Expressway (KPE) project, which was opened to traffic on 20 September 2008.
Refer to the map below for the exact location of the bridge.
