New Volkswagen Golf R in development for 24h Nurburgring

Volkswagen R, the racing arm of the brand, has announced that it will take part in the 24h Nurburgring in 2027 for its 25^th anniversary. And in preparation for this, it is developing an all-wheel drive Golf R for the racetrack.

The brand will also give a first glimpse of this non-road-legal-racer (focussing on extreme performance rather than production-based road specs) with a show car that will be presented to the public in the Ring Boulevard at the Nurburgring.

The Golf R will replace the outgoing Golf GTI Clubsport

Speaking on this unveiling, Volkswagen R has promised that "fans of the 24h Nurburgring can look forward to the most spectacular Golf R to date".

The Golf R 24h will mark a new chapter for Volkswagen R, which also sees co-founder Benjamin Leuchter responsible for the programme as a test and development driver. It will replace the outgoing Golf GTI Clubsport.
