The Infiniti M35 will use Nissan’s own internally-designed hybrid system, unlike the Nissan Altima hybrid which uses a system licensed from Toyota, and Nissan claims that it will be the brand’s "cleanest and most economical car" ever.
The hybrid drive system will boost the engine’s acceleration in "power assist" mode when maximum acceleration is needed, and can also regenerate energy when decelerating and braking. The M35 Hybrid can also run in electric-only mode, although Infiniti has yet to reveal details as to how it will do so. Performance, driving range and transmission details will also be revealed at a later date.
The battery pack for the car will be made of a new "laminated" lithium-ion battery setup, a layout which Infiniti says offers the same size as a traditional battery pack, but stores twice the power while also enhancing cooling performance and reliability. Despite being a hybrid though, the M35 is still a luxury car, with a 3.5-litre V6 engine sending power to the rear wheels.
