Optical art created to mark Porsche's 75th anniversary

American Artist and Documentarian Heidi Mraz has debuted a series of optical art pieces to mark Porsche's 75th anniversary.
The series, titled All the Colours of the Rennbow, features an array of hues sampled from the brand spanning its 75-year history. Each multi-layered canvas is made from 400 to 600 colourful laser-cut geometric shapes, with additional 911 silhouettes for added detail.
When viewed at close range, the art appears solely as a colourful geometric abstraction, but when viewed at a distance or through a convex mirror or cell phone, an optical transformation occurs and the colours shift as a hidden image is revealed.
The shapes have to be placed in just the right combination to make adjacent colours blend into new colours and shapes in the viewers mind when viewed from a distance. This blending of colours, called optical mixing, is said to make Mraz's dynamic art an incredibly personal and transformative experience.
The array of hues for the art pieces is said to have been collected and catalogued over the past decade by Mraz, done by photographing cars at major car events or by visiting Porsche dealerships. She also collected sample paint chips, and cut and scanned pages from auction catalogues, as well as books and magazines.
Porsche states that Mraz's efforts to document the Rennbow spectrum is both a dynamic retrospect and a mosaic masterpiece that transforms years of Porsche colour history into a modern work of art that pays homage to the past while looking to the future.
