Polestar has published the full Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) of its new four-door GT, the Polestar 5.
Available for download from Polestar here, the assessment reveals that the carbon footprint of the 5 comes in at a total of 23.8 tCO2e, inclusive of the emissions associated with the raw material extraction necessary for the car, its production, and final delivery to its customer.
Polestar states that this footprint is possible thanks to the car's use of aluminium from smelters powered by renewable electricity as well as the use of recycled aluminium. The facilities producing the Polestar 5 and its battery modules and other key battery materials also operate on renewable electricity.
The car's interior also makes use of materials that lower its environmental impact, including natural fibre composites and recycled materials. Customers opting for leather can choose Bridge of Weir Nappa leather, a chrome-free, animal welfare secured natural by-product of the food industry.
The Polestar 5 offers up to 650kW of power and 1,015Nm of torque alongside a WLTP range of up to 678km. Its 800V architecture further allows it to support 350kW DC charging, allowing a 10% to 80% charging session to be completed in as little as 22 minutes.
Polestar offers full LCAs for all of its models and states that an understanding of the emissions embedded in materials and manufacturing of its vehicles is critical to reducing the climate impact of the manufacturing of cars.
