Police arrest motorist who crashed through Woodlands Checkpoint

The driver of the Singapore-registered Mercedes-Benz that crashed through Woodlands Checkpoint has been arrested. The incident took place at about 4:05pm on Saturday, when a car arriving from Malaysia drove off while undergoing customs checks, injuring an officer who attempted to stop the vehicle.
The car then crashed through the security barrier that was activated and entered Singapore. The driver had cleared the immigration checks when the incident took place.
Police alerted resources on the ground and messages were sent to all taxi drivers to spot a gold-coloured Mercedes-Benz.
The car was recovered at 8:30pm, and the 65-year old driver was later arrested. He is being investigated for various offences, such as evasion of custom checks and vandalism.
