Porsche 911 Speedster zooms into Singapore

The event was held at Prive at Keppel Bay, amidst the backdrop of stunning yachts parked in the blue waters of the bay. The exclusivity of the area was befitting of the Porsche 911 Speedster’s status as a limited edition model, paying homage to the legendary Speedster name.

Only 356 Speedsters will be built worldwide, and Singapore has been allocated one solitary unit, which has already been spoken for. The number 356 symbolises the original Speedster, the 356 from 1953, and the new 911 Speedster features a significantly different look from the rest of the 911 family.

Flatter, wider - Speedster

The new 911 Speedster combines the classic features of a Porsche Speedster sports car, with the performance levels of modern day 911s. The 60mm shorter windscreen, the flat contour of the sporty-looking convertible top, and the characteristic double bubble on the convertible top compartment lid define the striking profile of the 911 Speedster. The 44mm wider rear track also makes the car stand out.

From the front, the Speedster is recognisable by its special front apron, darkened front lamps and black headlight surrounds. Specific side skirts and the autonomous rear apron with black “Speedster” lettering round off its individual look. The new model reveals its perfect Speedster lines with the top open or closed, with an exclusively manually operated convertible top helping to achieve this.

Despite its typical two-seater look with the convertible top compartment lid fully closed, the new 911 Speedster offers further stowage space for additional luggage behind the seats. Together with the classic 911 luggage compartment in the front end, this results in a luggage compartment volume which is entirely suitable for daily use and even vacationing in this two-seater roadster.

Outstanding driving dynamics and pure performance
The new 911 Speedster also underscores its sporty standards with extensive weight savings. Aluminium doors, the omission of the rear seats and the standard ceramic brake system significantly reduce weight. The new convertible lid is built from aluminium and is therefore no heavier than its smaller sibling, the Porsche 911 Carrera S Cabriolet. Despite the extensive addition of extra equipment, this has enabled the 911 Speedster to precisely match the weight of the open topped Carrera S, at 1,540kg.

The outstanding safety features in the new 911 Speedster are supplemented by exemplary occupant protection. Full-size airbags for the driver and passenger are fitted, as is the Porsche Side Impact Protection System (POSIP) with thorax and head airbags. Porsche have also further developed the roll-over protection system specifically for the 911 Speedster. In the event of the
car rolling over, the automatic roll-over bars extend to their full height through the convertible top compartment and also the rear window if necessary.

The 3.8-litre flat-six engine has also been uprated to 408bhp, 23bhp more than the Carrera S. Together with the Porsche PDK gearbox as standard, this guarantees rapid acceleration with minimal consumption and the lowest possible emissions at the same time. The drive concept is therefore a shining example of the Porsche Intelligent Performance concept.
