Porsche and Michelin develop new sustainable tyre

Michelin has revealed that it has managed to push the total composition of sustainable materials in its latest competition tyre all the way up to 53%.
The firm had previously revealed a new tyre, which claimed to be comprised of 46% sustainable materials at the 2021 24 Hours of Le Mans, developed for GreenGT's fuel-cell electric racing prototype.
But now, the tyre manufacturer is premiering a new tyre that will take that proportion up to 53%, set to debut in the new, all-electric Porsche 718 Cayman GT4 ePerformance as it makes its way up the hillclimb of the 2022 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The sustainable materials are said to be either bio-sourced materials such as natural rubber, or recycled raw materials including carbon black from recycled end-of-life tyres. Other materials said to go into the new tyres range from orange and lemon peel, to pine-tree resin, sunflower oil and scrap steel.
Michelin claims the use of these materials has resulted in no detriment to either the performance or the safety that this new competition tyre offers.
