Porsche celebrates Le Mans victory at the second 2.4 Hours Endurance Kart Race

Porsche Singapore held the second edition of the 2.4 Hours of Singapore Endurance Kart Race, an event that also celebrated Porsche's victory at Le Mans.

Porsche Asia Pacific held the second edition of the 2.4 Hours of Singapore Endurance Kart Race on Sunday, 18^th June, a unique event that coincided with the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

Despite the rain and a soaking wet track, the drivers kept true to the spirit of endurance racing and carried on driving

Held at the KF1 karting circuit at Kranji, 12 teams of three drivers partaked in the endurance race around the 960m circuit for two hours and 24 minutes, in what amounted to a mini Le Mans-style race. However, it proved to be an incident filled event, with the skies turning dark early into the race. With rain lashing down and lightning filling the skies about 25 minutes in, the race was red flagged as conditions proved too treacherous to drive.

The race was eventually resumed at 7:06pm, with teams restarting the race from the pits. The top two teams from last year, Snamel Dream Team and Martini Racing, again proved that they were the ones to beat, heading the field on a soaking wet track. However, Le Media, a team consisting of members of the media, managed to work themselves up into the leading pack. Eventually, the race was won by Snamel Dream Team, who have now clinched back-to-back victories in the 2.4 Hours of Singapore Endurance Kart Race.

The event also saw a screening of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in the Porsche lounge, with Porsche Club members and guests taking in the race atmosphere, simultaneously watching Porsche trying to win its third Le Mans title on the trot and its 19^th overall victory. There were also a variety of activities to keep guests and their kids occupied, including driving simulators and remote-controlled car racing.

The race proved to be an eventful one for Porsche, with the #2 Porsche 919 car heading into the pits early with an issue with its front axle drive, costing them more than an hour. The car eventually rejoined the race 18 laps behind the race leaders. In the night, two of the Toyota cars that had been leading the race were both forced to retire, and this put the #1 Porsche car in the lead. However, the #1 Porsche came to a stop on the track having led the race for more than 10 hours, thus opening up the door for the #2 Porsche to take an improbable victory.

Having had to work its way up from the middle of the field, the #2 Porsche (piloted by Earl Bamber, Timo Bernhard and Brendon Hartley) managed to take the race lead 20 laps from the end. The #2 car eventually took the chequered flag having completed 367 laps, completing a Le Mans triple victory for Porsche.
