Porsche Asia Pacific held the inaugural 2.4 Hours of Singapore 2016 Endurance Kart Race on Sunday, 19th June, a unique event that coincided with the 24 Hours of Le Mans race.

The exciting race saw two teams duking it out with each other ahead of the rest of the field. Team #2 (Snamel Dream Team) and Team #7 (Martini Racing) raced head-to-head over the course of 132 gruelling laps of the circuit, with the gap narrowing to less than a second with just five laps to go. Eventually, Snamel Dream Team managed to pull away and emerge the very first champions of the 2.4 Hours of Singapore Endurance Kart Race.
The event also saw a screening of the 24 Hours of Le Mans race in the Porsche lounge, with Porsche Club members and guests taking in the race atmosphere, simulataneously watching Porsche defend its Le Mans title as well as cheering on the kart racers on the KF1 track.
The incident-filled race, of which the first hour was run behind the safety car due to rain, saw numerous lead changes between Porsche and Toyota. The #2 Porsche 919 car claimed a dramatic victory on the very last lap after the #5 Toyota TS050 came to a halt on the start-finish line at the start of its very last lap - with just three minutes and 21 seconds to go in the race - due to a power failure. It marked a heartbreaking end for the Japanese manufacturer, which had been extremely consistant and incident-free for all of 23 hours and 56 minutes of the race and looked set to claim its maiden victory at Le Mans. Due the the rules, which requires cars to finish the final lap after the chequered flag falls in under six minutes to be classified, the #5 Toyota did not even finish within race classification.
The #2 Porsche 919, driven by Marc Lieb, Neel Jani and Romain Dumas, claimed claimed back-to-back victory for Porsche and its 18th victory at Le Mans.

Held at the KF1 karting circuit at Kranji, the endurance race saw 10 teams of three drivers race around the 960m circuit for two hours and 24 minutes, in what amounted to a mini Le Mans-style race. The teams got to have a taste of what it takes to partake in an endurance race, with each driver having to clock a minimum of 30 minutes out on the track.
