2023 is quite a special year for Porsche, the famed German sports car brand that has been deeply involved in motorsports. It is not only the brand's 75th anniversary, but it will also be participating in the 100th 24 Hours of Le Mans, in the Hypercar class with its all new 963.
To celebrate this special occasion, Porsche Singapore organised the Singapore 2.4-hour Endurance Karting Challenge to pit members of the media, along with staff from Porsche Asia Pacific and Porsche Singapore, against each other in the true spirit of racing.
Participants are grouped into random teams of three drivers, and each team can come up with their own strategies for the race, which occurs over a period of 144 minutes.
With a maximum of 30 minutes for each stint, at least four driver changes are needed to complete the race, providing a genuine experience of endurance racing.
For the event, Porsche Singapore has also worked with KF1 to dress up the karts in iconic Porsche liveries from yesteryears, a nod to the brand's storied past at Le Mans.
Don't let the small size of the karts fool you, the endurance racing experience was every bit as exciting! And true to the spirit of endurance racing, the kart race was flagged off with the historic 'Le Mans Start', where each driver had to run to their kart to start the race.
Throughout the evening, racing was close, not just due to the strong competitive spirits, but also the unforeseen incidents on the track.
With slight bumps and contact between karts, exciting overtaking manoeuvres, and mechanical gremlins, the 2.4-hour kart race was every bit as exhilarating as a full-scale endurance race experience.
With the kart race concluded, all participants then got to enjoy the rest of the night with a live screening of the start of the 100th running of the Le Mans, rounding off the motorsports-fuelled evening.
