Porsche teases 'extensively updated' Taycan with range test

A revamped Porsche Taycan is well on its way, and Porsche is no making secret of the fact that the car will have undergone rigorous testing ahead of being welcomed by customers. The latest revelation? That the new Taycan will boast even better range, efficiency, and charging performance than before.
After highlighting its extended treks in the heat of California's Death Valley, as well as the freezing cold of Finnish Arctic Circle, Porsche is now drawing our attention to a real-world range test undertaken of the car in Los Angeles.
Twelve international media representatives were roped in for participation, driving a total of four Taycans all equipped with the larger 93.4kWh battery, and the three-day drive saw the teams tackling the Interstate Highway 405 and 5 between Los Angeles and San Diego. Impressively, no hypermiling was involved too; Porsche claims that the drivers took on the maximum legal speed of 120km/h on interstate sections. The all-electric sports cars covered up to 587km on one battery charge on public roads.
For context, the 2023 Model Year 'update' saw the Taycan 4S achieving a WLTP-rated range of up to 512km with the Performance Battery Plus.
Extra range isn't all that Porsche is celebrating though.
While apparently using 'Hyper-Fast' Electrify America Chargers rated at 350kW, the Taycan was able to demonstrate over 300kW in charging power "for many minutes", with the batteries repeatedly evincing the ability to be charged from a 10 to 80% state of charge in "well under 20 minutes".
Speaking on the ostensibly improved range and charging performance of the Taycan, Kevin Giek, Vice President for the Taycan model line, said, "The range test in Southern California impressively demonstrated how efficient the reworked Taycan is. We are continuing to focus on our 'fast travel' strategy for electric mobility: short charging stops paired with high real-world ranges thanks to efficient drives."
The new Taycan, which Porsche says has been "extensively revised", is set to be revealed "in a few days".
