Porsche to make use of low-carbon aluminium

Porsche is bringing the carbon emissions associated with its supply chain down, thanks to a new collaboration with Norwegian aluminium and renewable energy company Norsk Hydro ASA.
The collaboration will see Hydro delivering to Porsche and several of Porsches component suppliers an aluminium alloy it Hydro calls 'Hydro Reduxa 4.0'.
This low-carbon aluminium offering is produced with renewable energy and is said to have one of the lowest CO2 footprints on the market. By 2025 Hydro will enable Porsche to reduce the footprint of the aluminium in future vehicle projects to around 3.5kg of CO2 per kilogram aluminium used. This is said to be 60% lower than the average primary aluminium consumed in Europe currently.
Hydro is further aiming to supply Porsche and Porsche's component suppliers with CO2-neutral aluminium come 2030. Hydro plans to do this by increasing the use of renewable energy in aluminium production and recycling post-consumer scrap, reducing the footprint of its produced aluminium.
