Production of MINI Cooper starts at MINI Plant Oxford

Seven months after the unveiling of the new MINI Cooper and just one week after production of the new MINI Countryman Electric was kickstarted in Leipzig, production of the MINI Cooper has now stated at MINI Plant Oxford.
The production lines were kickstarted with a special on-site event which saw the first three-door model driven off the production line by Charlie Cooper, grandson of the legendary John Cooper, whose heritage inspired the Cooper moniker.
Production of the new MINI Cooper now starts at BMW Group Plant Swindon, where the body pressings and sub-assemblies are manufactured. Meanwhile, production of the car's three and four-cylinder engines are made at BMW Group Plant Hams Hall in North Warwickshire. These parts come together at MINI Plant Oxford, where body shell production, paint, and final assembly take place
MINI states that over 4.4 million examples of the much-loved vehicles have been produced in the U.K. since the launch of the first modern MINI in 2001, and its Oxford is preparing to build two new all-electric models from 2026. First customer deliveries of the MINI Cooper are set to start in early 2024 in the U.K.
