Recalled in the US: Hyundai i45/Sonata

When Toyota fell from grace last year, Hyundai experienced a huge increase in the sale of its midsized i45 saloon (called the Sonata in the United States).

With the Camry's safety in question, American buyers flocked to Hyundai's newly redesigned i45, making it a top-five best-selling car.

However, that "safe choice" image has been tarnished, thanks to the recently announced recall of 139,500 American made Sonata's.

It seems that a joint in the steering shaft was either improperly made, or improperly tightened. And this could result in the loss of steering, due to the joint separating.

No word if a recall is planned for the S. Korean made i45.
