The brand new Rolls-Royce Ghost and Ghost Extended have made their highly anticipated debut in Singapore.
Building on the adoration of the most successful Rolls-Royce model in the marque's 116-year history, the new Ghost adopts a minimalist, 'post-opulent' design, entirely appropriate for this current era. This resulted in a design and development process thats focused on simplicity, delivered through cutting-edge engineering and manufacturing techniques.
The design of the new Ghost is driven by a focus on reduction. The Spirit of Ecstasy is situated within her own 'lake' on the bonnet, rather than surrounded by panel lines. The flank of the car features a single straight stroke, while a lower 'waft line' uses reflection to lighten the surfacing and create a pure, uncomplicated sense of motion. Overall, it creates a sense of crafted simplicity that reflects this new minimalist approach for the brand.
The contemporary and minimalist theme continues on the inside. The finest leathers, woods and metals are used, but busy and complex stitchwork has given way to long, perfectly straight lines. The new Illuminated Fascia, which features 90,000 laser-etched dots across the surface, combines with the Starlight Headliner to create a twinkling effect within the cabin.
Of course, this is also the most technologically advanced Ghost ever. For the first time ever, the rear doors feature a power assistance auto-open function, in addition to the auto-close function already available. By just pulling the rear door handle, the coach doors effortlessly open without the need for the passenger to physically push the door. On-board longitudinal and transverse sensors, as well as G-force sensors fitted to each door, allow the same speed of door operation regardless of hill or driveway angles.
A new Micro Environment Purification System creates the cleanest micro environment available within the cabin of a car. The system detects ambient air quality, automatically switching fresh air intakes to Recirculation Mode if unacceptable levels of airborne contaminants are present.
The new Ghost also features more than 100kg of acoustic insulation to create a serene cabin environment. Obsessive engineering also led to the development of the 'whisper' - each component is tuned to a common resonant frequency to create a soft undertone that is experienced as a single, subtle note. This allows the Ghost to create a peerless sound studio, with sound delivered via an 18-channel, 1,300W Bespoke Audio audiophile grade system.
Integral to the new Ghost's driving comfort is the brand's proprietary aluminium spaceframe architecture, providing strength, rigidity and the acoustic properties to deliver Rolls-Royce's highly vaunted 'magic carpet ride'. All-wheel drive and all-wheel steering enhance on-road agility.
Also, the Ghost features a world-first 'Planar Suspension System', which integrates a damper into the upper wishbone of the suspension. This allows the suspension to better cope with small tarmac imperfections. Combined with self-levelling, high-volume air suspension technology, stability control, self-drying braking systems, Satellite Aided Transmission, and the 'flagbearer' system that consists of a stereo camera system integrated in the windscreen to see the road ahead, the new Ghost achieves unprecedented levels of ride comfort and control.

The Ghost Extended offers 170mm more space than Ghost, providing more rear legroom than any four-seat sedan in its segment. A key learning over the previous generation was that Ghost Extended customers wanted no compromise to the Ghost's pure, minimalist design. The marque's designers worked to cloak the extra length by only extending the rear door and body around the rear door apertures, preserving the lines of the car.
