SBS Transit adds more trains on Sengkang and Punggol LRT lines

Residents of Sengkang and Punggol East will enjoy more train trips on the two LRT lines operated by SBS Transit - after it has announced to add more trains and increase frequency. According to The Straits Times, SBS Transit will add an additional 1,464 more weekly trips to the Punggol East and Sengkang LRT systems.
A total of 1,019 trips will be added to the Punggol East LRT, increasing capacity by about 37.1 percent. Waiting time will also be reduced to no longer than three minutes during the morning and evening peak periods.
On the Sengkang East LRT system, there will be an additional 445 trips a week. With the increase, SBS Transit claims commuters can expect a higher frequency in service and less crowded trains when travelling during the peak period - between 6:00am and 9.30am and between 8:30pm and 9:30pm.
The service enhancements aim to better supply with an increasing ridership. The local paper reported that daily ridership rose by 12 percent to 27,000 on the Punggol East LRT system and by 11.7 percent to over 52,000 on the Sengkang line as of April this year.
