Scania launched its brand new truck generation in Singapore at a launch event held on Friday, 26 October. The brand new award-winning truck generation is designed and engineered to give fleet owners greater total operating economy and profitability with a smaller carbon footprint.

The new generation continues to adopt Scania's unique modular system, allowing customers to customise their vehicle configurations according to their choice of cabs, engines and chassis.
In addition to design and technical improvements to the P-series, G-series and R-series cabs that were mainstays of the PGR generation, the new L-series and S-series cabs are also available for Singapore customers. The L-series cab is purposefully designed for urban applications, with a spacious and low cab that puts the driver at the same level as other vehicles on the road. The S-series cab, the tallest in the range, features a completely flat floor and a high roof to maximise interior space and comfort, crucial for long-distance driving.
Scania is also introducing the XT range, offering additional technical specifications to enhance the robustness of trucks working in rough conditions. These include a high air intake, a tow pin with 40-tonne towing capacity, a sturdy steel bumper, skid plate, as well as headlamp protection.

This is achieved with improvements to the Euro 6 diesel engine, as well as improved aerodynamics. Additionally, Scania has also made available the broadest range of alternative fuel and technology solutions on its new trucks.
These include engines that operate on natural gas, hydro-treated vegetable oil, bioethanol, biogas, biodiesel as well as hybrid drivetrains, platooning and autonomous vehicle systems.
Another key guiding principle of the new generation Scania trucks is safety. To this end, the new generation trucks have a more robust monocoque high tensile steel structure. The repositioned front axle and 30-inch brake chambers allow a 5% improvement in braking distance.
To enhance passive safety, the new generation introduces rollover side curtain airbags, which can potentially reduce fatalities from rollover accidents by up to 25%. The design of the steering column directly beneath the steering wheel is also intended to absorb impact energy and reduce impact force to the driver during incidents.

To allow customers to unlock more value from their trucks, Scania continues to provide a comprehensive suite of services. These include repair and maintenance contracts with standard or flexible plans at Scania's two workshops at Senoko Road and Benoi Road.
Customers can also leverage the connectivity of the trucks to use the Fleet Management System, for the real-time tracking of the trucks, and Fleet Care services, which outsources the service planning and fleet optimisation functions to Scania. Scania also conducts driver training and coaching to upgrade the skills of drivers to be able to increase fuel efficiency and road safety.
Additionally, Scania Credit Singapore is officially opened as well, offering customers flexible in-house financing solutions that are specifically tailored to their plans and budgets.

The new generation models are the 10 years of development work, involving the company's largest-ever investment and more than 10 million kilometres of test driving. The new generation models replace Scania's PGR generation of trucks, which has been available in Singapore since 2006.
