Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota) has announced that it will sell the U.S.A-manufactured Tundra pickup truck and the Highlander SUV in Japan starting from 2 April 2026, with nationwide sales scheduled to begin in Q3 2026.
And by using a certain system that took effect on 16 February 2026, this allows U.S.A-made vehicles to be sold in Japan without undergoing additional Japan-specific certification testing.
The Tundra is a full-size pickup that features a sturdy ladder-frame structure, an oversized three-dimensional front grille, and a lightweight and highly durable cargo bed made of aluminium and high-strength sheet moulding compound.
Inside, it features a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen that combines bold design with functionality, as well as a 12.3-inch TGT colour display and genuine leather seats.
Powering the pickup truck is a 3.4-litre Twin-Turbo V6 engine and 10-speed automatic transmission.
As for the Highlander, it is a three-row midsize SUV that features large tyres with wide treads, a large grille, sharp LED headlights, and three-dimensional rear combination lamps that extend horizontally.
The spacious seven-passenger interior with three rows of seats come equipped with comfort features such as a panoramic roof, JBL premium sound system, and a colour head-up display. An instrumental panel with a horizontal layout creates a wide open space, and with the third-row seats folded flat, offers approximately 870 litres of generous luggage space.
It is powered by a 2.5-litre inline four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that delivers a maximum system output of 247bhp.
In addition to these two models, Toyota has said that the reintroduction of the Camry in Japan - which was also under consideration - will begin as soon as preparations are complete.
