Skoda delivered 1.24 million vehicles to customers around the world in 2019, marking the sixth year in a row that the manufacturer has delivered more than one million vehicles.
The result is 0.9% below last year's level of 1.25 million vehicles, due to the continued decline of the Chinese car market. In the rest of the world, Skoda increased its deliveries by 5.3% to 960,700 vehicles, while in Europe and Russia, the car manufacturer achieved another record year.
Strong growth is expected for these markets for 2020, with the fourth generation Skoda Octavia entering the market, while series production of the first vehicle based on Volkswagen's Modular Electric Platform will also be launched.
In Western Europe, Skoda delivered 520,500 vehicles in 2019, an increase of 7.0% compared to the previous year's total volume of 486,400 vehicles. In Germany, the brand's second-largest single market, deliveries increased by 8.3% to 191,200 vehicles in 2019. The car manufacturer also achieved double-digit growth in France (37,200 vehicles; +16.2%), Switzerland (22,600 vehicles; +27.5%), the Netherlands (19,200 vehicles; +12.8%) and Denmark (15,600 vehicles; +14.6%).
Deliveries in China meanwhile, were 17.3% below the previous year's level at 282,000 vehicles. The drop in sales was atttributed by Skoda to the continued decline of the Chinese passenger car market, which is still characterised by market uncertainty and buying restraint.
