Skoda Auto has said that it will unveil its all-new, all-electric Epiq in the first half of this year. The city SUV crossover will be a cornerstone of the brand's strategy to double its all-electric portfolio by 2026.
It is also the brand's first production model to incorporate all elements of the new Modern Solid design language. The side lines evoke a sense of confidence, and the minimalist approach emphasises the car's functional design. The highlighted, O-shaped air intakes in the front bumper incorporate active shutters that improve aerodynamics.
In addition to its stylistic appeal, the distinctive front section - the so-called Volcano line - also has a practical function: It conceals discreetly integrated Air Curtains to further reduce air resistance. The robustly shaped rear bumper clearly emphasises the SUV character, while the unpainted section extending to the rear door sill helps protect against damage both in city traffic and when loading luggage. The aerodynamically optimised wheels range in size from 17- to 19-inches.
The distinctive front end with the Tech-Deck Face front mask is complemented by a completely new T-shaped light signature for the headlights, which is also reflected in the rear lights. The Skoda Epiq comes with LED headlights as standard, while the top-of-the-range Matrix-LED version with 12 segments features more powerful light sources for both low and high beams, can mask oncoming traffic, and includes four modes for city, road, highway, and bad weather driving.
The interior of the Skoda Epiq continues the same flowing, uncluttered look which, together with the horizontally oriented dashboard and ambient lighting strips, accentuates the feeling of spaciousness and cosiness. Driving data is displayed on a 5.3-inch screen in the driver's field of vision, familiar from other Skoda electric cars. A 13-inch central display is standard, enabling easy control of infotainment, navigation, and all functions and settings.
There are three Design Selections to choose from, using 100% recycled PES for the seat textiles. Studio is the entry-level option. Loft is available in shades of grey or mint green, featuring a new embossed pattern and Techtona, a synthetic leather alternative, on the dashboard and door panels. The top-of-the-range Suite selection features seats with embossed Suedia and Techtona upholstery in Tabora Brown, with the same material used on the dashboard and door inserts. Both Loft and Suite include ambient lighting.
Thanks to the new MEB+ platform, the Skoda Epiq offers one of the largest boots in its class. The basic volume is 475 litres, which can be increased to 1,344 litres by folding down the rear seats. The interior provides almost 26 litres of additional storage space.
The car is powered by two different versions of the new APP290 electric motor in three power variants, combined with two different traction batteries. The Epiq 35 variant offers an output of 85kW, while the more powerful Epiq 40 provides 99kW, both paired with a battery with a total capacity of 38.5kWh. The top-of-the-range Epiq 55 offers 155kW with a 55kWh battery.
All three variants can be charged with 11kW AC power, while DC charging is available at up to 50, 90, and 133kW, depending on the variant. The most powerful version can be charged from 10-80% in just 23 minutes.
