Skoda Auto has inaugurated a new simulation centre at its headquarters in Mlada Boleslav. The new laboratory will bolster the firm's in-house development capabilities and is said to come packed with state-of-the-art technologies that will allow the precise and accurate simulation of a wide range of climatic conditions, enabling comprehensive tests that mimic real-world operations.
The new centre will allow vehicles to be tested under extreme load and for virtual calculations to be validated across diverse driving conditions, as it can sustain temperatures ranging from -7 degrees Celsius to 50 degrees Celsius. It is additionally capable of simulating conditions ranging from 10% to 95% relative humidity as well as altitudes of up to 5,500m above sea level.
The laboratory also makes use of a roller dynamometer that can test vehicles of up to 402bhp, and can simulating driving resistances at speeds of up to 265km/h. It is also equipped with an emissions analysis system and a 400kW charging station for electric vehicles.
Skoda will utilise the new facility to ensure that both its pre-production and production vehicles comply with current and upcoming legislative requirements such as the EU7 emission standard.
