At Tokyo Auto Salon (TAS) 2025, Toyota Gazoo Racing (TGR) led its display of vehicles and vehicle parts (with the theme of "Car-making at Nurburgring") with three unique GR Yaris models.
The first is the GR Yaris (Nür 24h), a race car that marks Toyota's return to the Nurburgring 24 Hours endurance race. From 2025, TGR and ROOKIE Racing intend to compete in the Nurburgring Langstrecken Serie (NLS) and the Super Taikyu Series as a united "Toyota Gazoo ROOKIE Racing (TGRR)". This marks Toyota's return to the competition after a six-year hiatus. The GR Yaris (Nür 24h) equipped with the newly developed Gazoo Racing Direct Automatic Transmission.
The second model is the GR Yaris M Concept, unique for having a midship-mounted turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine. TGR has plans to compete in the Super Taikyu Series with the GR Yaris M Concept.
The third model exhibited is the GR Yaris Aero Package prototype, a concept vehicle sporting six performance aerodynamic parts developed in conjunction with professional drivers. This includes a variable rear wing with a situation-responsive adjustable angle, as well as a vertical handbrake.
Additionally, the brand has also released software upgrades for the GR86, modifying the throttle characteristics in manual transmission vehicles, and expanding the engine-speed tolerance range during downshifting to improve acceleration response and quicker downshifts in automatic transmission vehicles.
The brand also showcased GR Parts for the GR Yaris and GR86 scheduled for launch in Spring 2025 and the GR Heritage Parts, an initiative to reissue discontinued service parts and sell them anew as genuine parts to meet customers’ desires.
TGR also released 25 items for seven models (including the 70/80 Supra, AE86, and Land Cruiser 40), as well as reprinting long-requested, nostalgic brochures of GR Heritage Parts vehicle models and other classic cars. The brochures is able to be purchased through the online Toyota Gazoo Racing Rakuten Ichiba store.
