Subaru marks recycling milestone with new sculpture
08 Oct 2023|101 views
Subaru of America, Inc. and American professional soccer club Philadelphia Union have revealed a unique sculpture in the U.S.A state of Pennsylvania to commemorate the diversion of a million pounds of waste from landfills by both organisations.
Titled zero landfill, the sculpture commemorates the status of Subaru Park - a stadium in Chester, Pennsylvania - as the first zero landfill stadium in Major League Soccer. The sculpture is made from 12,000 different pieces of recyclable materials including aluminium cans and tabs as well as plastic soda bottles all collected from the stadium, and takes the form of a larger-than-life soccer ball sculpture that occupies a prominent spot in front of the stadium. The sculpture is said to symbolise Subaru and the Union's shared commitments, including love of the game and the planet.
Subaru states that it has been dedicated to helping other businesses and organisations achieve the same zero waste status that the Subaru of Indiana Automotive manufacturing plant achieved in 2004 and has freely shared knowledge with over 900 companies worldwide to help make the world a better place. The firm has also worked with U.S.A-based recycling business to divert more than eight million pieces of trash out of landfills.
