Subaru, Toyota, and Mazda to collaborate on new engines

Subaru Corporation, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Mazda Motor Corporation have announced that they will be collaborating to develop new engines which will be compatible with various carbon-neutral fuels, and optimising the integration of these engines with batteries and other electric drive units.

The firms state that the new engines will not only be efficient and powerful, but will also revolutionise vehicle packaging by being more compact than existing models. This means vehicles will be able to sport lower hoods, improving design possibilities and their aerodynamic performance, contributing to better fuel efficiency. The development of these engines will also focus on compliance with increasingly strict emissions regulations.

The engines will additionally open the way towards carbon neutrality and the move away from fossil fuels by offering compatibility with alternatives including synthetic fuel, biofuels, and liquid hydrogen.
