Tesla has launched its all-electric Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV), the Model X, at a live launch event, with CEO Elon Musk laying out his vision for the Model X and why it has a place on everyone's front drive.
Built electric from the ground up, the Model X is designed to be the safest car on the road. Tesla says that its crash tests indicate that Model X will receive a five-star safety rating in all categories, the first SUV to ever do so. Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) comes standard, the only standard AEB system that works at high speed. Every Model X also carries a forward-looking camera, radar, and 360-degree sonar sensors to enable advanced autopilot features.
One of the most striking aspects of the Model X is its Falcon Wing doors, offering unprecedented convenience, entry, and manoeuverability for everyday life and seamless ingress and egress into the second and third row. In typical Tesla trendsetting fashion, the doors are also the industry's first auto presenting door, which automatically opens and closes as the driver approaches or exits the Model X.
At the heart of the vehicle is Tesla's proven electric powertrain, accelerating the Model X from 0-100km/h in 3.2 seconds and hitting a top speed of 250km/h, all while producing zero emissions. The car also has all-wheel drive, with dual motors that digitally and independently control torque to the front and rear wheels. The car has a driving range of 402km on a single charge.
