Besides the fare hike of 3.2 percent, the Public Transport Council (PTC) will implement changes to fare concessions from 6th April this year. The review is summarised in the following eight points:
1) As a whole, bus and train fares will increase by 6.6 percent. The hike, however, will be carried out in two phases - 3.2 percent in this year, while the remainder will be carried over to the next review.
2) Kids below the age of seven years will enjoy free transport regardless of their height.
3) Students from Polytechnics will enjoy same concession prices as those in junior college and ITE. The current price of $97 will be reduced to $51 for a hybrid pass (bus and train), with savings up to 47 percent.
4) Full-time National Servicemen will enjoy the same concession rate as university students. A hybrid monthly concession pass will cost $85 instead of the current $111.
5) A new monthly concession pass for adults will be introduced. Priced at $120, the pass allows unlimited travel on buses and trains and will be available to Singaporeans and permanent residents.
6) Low income workers can expect up to 15 percent reduction in fares come 6th July. The new scheme will be funded by the Government.
7) Commuters with disabilities will enjoy 25 percent discount on regular adult fares. Likewise, the scheme will be funded by the Government, and will take effect from 6th July. The fares will also be capped at the price for travelling 7.2km.
8) Senior citizens will also benefit from the review with the introduction of an unlimited travel pass that costs $60.
