The externally rechargeable 107bhp battery is good for a 30km electric range and is linked to a new 3.0-litre V6 turbocharged engine rated at 245bhp. Torque figures are 340Nm and 480Nm for the electric motor and power unit respectively. Despite being a hybrid vehicle, the S-Class has rather impressive performance credentials with a century speed timing of 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 250km/h.
With the new S-Class Mercedes-Benz expands the Hybrid lineup in this model series to three models - the S400 Hybrid, S300 BlueTEC Hybrid and S500 Plug-In Hybrid. All second generation Hybrid drive systems share the seamless integration into the powertrain and feature the second generation recuperative braking system and the Intelligent Hybrid energy management system.
The intelligent Hybrid drive system uses the navigation data from COMAND Online to manage the charging and discharging of the high-voltage battery for the next eight kilometres.
