Third cyclist killed on the road within a week

A cyclist was killed when he collided with a lorry on Changi Coast Road. This is the third fatal accident which involves a cyclist in just three days. 

The accident took place at around 10:30am on Saturday. The cyclist, who has yet to be named, was pronounced dead on the scene by paramedics.

This has also sparked an outcry of road safety from the cycling community. Speaking to The Straits Times, a 30-year old cyclist said Changi Coast Road, which is straight and stretches for seven kilometres, is a popular location for cyclist. He added that motorists often "whizzes past cyclists by a hair's breadth" even when cyclists keep very close to the kerb side of the road.

Some motorists have feedback that the stretch is also a heaven for speeding cars.

The Traffic Police has announced in January that it will set up a new speed trap system which tracks the average speed of motorists to curb speeding on the road.

In last year alone, three cyclists have lost their lives while riding on the same stretch of road.
